As part of continued construction on the widening of Georgia Route 67, R.B. Baker Construction has scheduled I-16 eastbound ramp closures at Exit 127 through this weekend.
The closures started at noon Friday and will remain in place until 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16. Traffic will be detoured at Exit 116 onto U.S. Highway 301 and via Georgia Route 46 back to Route 67.
These closures are necessary for concrete slab placement, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced. By using two 12-hour shifts for continuous activity through the weekend, the contractor will reduce the number of ramp closures, GDOT said.
However, all work is weather contingent and subject to change for unforeseen circumstances.
Message boards and barrels are being used to alert the public. The ramps will reopen early if the work is completed ahead of schedule or could possibly be closed longer if weather delays the work, the GDOT stated.
The department reminds drivers that this is a work zone, so extreme caution is necessary and reduced speeds strongly advised.
