A Hinesville man who allegedly came to Statesboro for a sexual encounter with a teenage female faces sex offense charges.

Statesboro police Cpl. Justin Samples said Michael Sean Cooksey, 23, of Fort Stewart in Hinesville, is charged with child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Arrested early Wednesday morning, according to Bulloch County Jail records, Cooksey was identified as the offender after Statesboro police Detective Scott Brunson conducted an investigation when the 14-year-old Statesboro girl failed to report home after school recently, Samples said.

After the teen was located, Brunson questioned her and learned that she and Cooksey were together at an undisclosed Statesboro hotel, he said.

The encounter was consensual, and the teen also was charged with fornication, he said.

The relationship between the two was unclear, and Samples was unable to disclose details of how the two met and how the encounter was arranged.

Cooksey remains without bond in the Bulloch County Jail, awaiting further court appearances, according to jail records.
