The main power line connecting East Georgia Regional Medical Center was inadvertently cut Monday morning, but there was no interruption in power to any critical equipment or patient care areas at any time.

According to a statement from Jamie Riggs, director of Marketing at EGRMC, a site-work contractor cut line supplying the East Georgia Regional Medical Center hospital building.

“Our hospital is well equipped for situations like this, and our backup generators were fully operational, maintaining seamless power to all essential systems,” Riggs said. “We routinely conduct generator tests to support readiness for any unexpected event. Additionally, all points of entry and security measures were closely monitored and fully manned by our security team throughout the event.”

The main power was restored at 12:46 p.m.

Riggs did say that all elective surgeries were cancelled Monday after the line cut. The Medical Office Building and outpatient clinics were not affected and continued normal operations.

“The safety and care of our patients, visitors, and staff remain our highest priority,” she said. “We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our community as we worked through this situation.”
