Free SPD funeral escorts resume
No 2-officer limit, but number at SPDs discretion; sheriff to help

The ordinance City Council unanimously approved Thursday morning restores Statesboro Police Department escorts for funeral processions and does not limit them to two officers per funeral as was discussed Tuesday night. Instead, the revised draft that was adopted states that the number of officers and police vehicles assigned to a procession will be up to the police chief or the chief’s designee. This could be one, two, three or four officers, officials said, to be augmented at times by Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office deputies as the two agencies cooperate.
