A drop-in farewell reception honoring outgoing Chairman Roy Thompson, Commissioner Jappy Stringer and former Commissioner Curt Deal of the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners will be held 10:30 a.m. until noon Tuesday, Dec. 17, in the Jones-Love Cultural Center at Luetta Moore Park, 121 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Open to the public, the reception will follow the board’s last regularly scheduled meeting of the year, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the usual room at the county’s North Main Annex.
Thompson, who has served 20 years, including eight years as chairman after 12 as a district commissioner, Stringer, who served eight years in Seat 2-C, and Deal, who served eight years in Seat 2-A, all lost their re-election bids to in-party challengers in the May Republican primary or a June runoff. Deal then resigned effective Oct 21 while he and his family are moving to a different area of Georgia. Thompson and Stringer may remain on the board through Dec. 31, but a swearing-in ceremony for new members is slated for Dec. 30.
The county government is funding Tuesday’s reception, with finger foods and punch or other nonalcoholic beverage provided.
