Georgia Southern music professors Larisa and Steven Elisha will perform at the Newtown, Conn., Arts Festival. They will also perform a concert and teach children about music as part of the "Healing Newtown" program. The audience will include students from Sandy Hook Elementary School, the site of last year's tragic shooting rampage.
In the aftermath of last year’s tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn. — a rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary that left 26 people dead, 20 of them schoolchildren ages 6 and 7 — people from around the country lent time and effort to aid the shaken community. Watching the selfless acts, Georgia Southern University professors and internationally renowned classical musicians Steven and Larisa Elisha knew for certain that they wanted to do the same. “After the tragedy, there was an outpouring of support for the people of Newtown,” said Steven Elisha.
