The stars come out at night — the dancing stars, that is.

The ninth annual Dancing with the Statesboro Stars was held Oct. 3, with an encore show on Oct. 6. The event benefits Safe Haven, a program of Citizens Against Violence Inc. Safe Haven is an emergency safe house for adult and child victims of domestic abuse in Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, Jenkins, Screven and Washington counties.

The event this year brought in more than $212,000, and was the culmination of months of rehearsing for the 13 couples involved.

Taking the Judges Choice prize were Jenny Maddi and Jamal Wright. Top fundraisers were Ashly Mills and Joseph Powell. Fan favorites were Win Lee and Anna Freeman, while the duo of Donald Chavers Jr. and Ellyn Duncan won the Team Player award.
