Bulloch County Commissioners are expected to vote this morning on whether to help fund a study by the Carl Vinson Institute regarding possible consolidation between Bulloch County and the City of Statesboro.
Commissioners voted two weeks ago to table the decision until they and County Manager Tom Couch could obtain more information about the study.
At the July 7 commission meeting, Terry Reeves, representing the Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce, asked commissioners to contribute half - up to $20,000 - of the amount the study will cost. The Statesboro City Council agreed to fund up to $20,000 for the study, Reeves said.
Couch recommended the commission table the decision, explaining that to agree would require a budget amendment and would mean taking the money from the fund reserve.
Commissioners are also expected to vote on an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Statesboro regarding elections.
A vote on the consent agenda will include approval of the following; appointment of Bruce Yawn, Earl Dabbs, David Holland, & Beth Matthews to the Development Authority Board; a contract renewal with Uniforms Unlimited for Bulloch County employee uniforms; and a purchase order and annual fixed price agreement with Mallard Auto Parts for servicing automotive and equipment filters.
Commissioners will also hear presentations from Donna Whitt with the Bulloch County C.H.I.L.D. Project and Ken Whitaker regarding Newell Recycling.
Other issues upon which commissioners are expected to vote include naming a road near the Agribusiness Center; a transfer from the Escrow Funds budget to the Probate Court budget for purchase of a Live Scan Fingerprint System and an alcohol license application.
The Bulloch County Commission meets this morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Bulloch County Annex on North Main Street.
