I find it quite interesting that every College football fan in the nation gets all fired up about verbal commitments from High School football players. After all, over the past few years I have seen many prepsters change their minds on signing day, much to the dismay of old Home State University.

      Right now the internet is burning up with fans of every school looking for the latest verbal yes from a prepster, who by the way, is supposed to immediately change the fortunes of the old Alma Mater right away. In my opinion, this media frenzy has gotten completely out of hand. I am thrilled for those players who are fortunate enough to be asked to share their talents on the football field, but their decision to play for Home State or Out-Of-State University is not binding until February 2nd 2011, or the day they sign that letter of intent.

      I look at the latest verbal commitments in Georgia and there are players who are rated by ability with stars. There are several five-star signees already giving the high-five and yes I will play for you coach on that list of players, but in reality, it kind of makes you feel bad for the player who is verbally commited to play College football, but is not rated or has very few stars by their name at their position.

      I understand the recruiting process, and I know it is a necessary one, but can't we wait until a high school athlete signs on the dotted line on February 2nd, graduates from High School and is academically qualified to play in College before we start tallying up how many game changers our favorite College team will suit up next football season.

      Until then...it's all talk.
