The restaurant news just keeps on coming. Southern Bread, LLC has confirmed that it recently purchased the commercial tract between Krystal Hamburger and Statesboro Car Wash and Lube on Buckhead Drive in Buckhead Crossing.
Southern Bread is slated to begin construction on its 13th Panera Bread franchise in the next few weeks.
"We have 11 existing restaurants in Savannah, Charleston, Augusta, Columbia, and Hilton Head," said Southern Bread managing partner Rich Connolly. "We are also building one in Bluffton. The Statesboro location will either be our 12th or 13th depending on when it opens."
Connolly said he has had his eye on Statesboro for the last four years or so.
"Statesboro is a very nice community, and it is continuing to grow," he said. "It was just a matter of picking the right location. I think this will be a wonderful spot for us. The visibility is great, and it's a high traffic area. We expect and hope to do very well there."
Connolly said construction of the 4,100 square foot restaurant should be complete by April 1.
"This Panera Bread will be a little different, because it will also have a drive-thru window," he said. "There aren't a lot of those, and it is becoming more and more popular with our customers since the first one was built in 2004. This drive-thru will be state-of-the-art."
Connolly said the restaurant will have a total of 50 employees, both full and part-time.
"As we get close to opening, we will certainly let people know how to apply for a job."
Panera Bread Company (NASDAQ: PNRA) along with its subsidiaries is a national bakery-cafe concept with 1,399 company-owned and franchise-operated bakery-cafe locations in 40 states and in Ontario, Canada.
