Inside Bulloch Business with Jan Moore - Jimmy John's enters Boro's sandwich race

This is the third week in a row that I will be writing about restaurants. If I thought that the redundancy of topic might bother you all, I wouldn't do it. But, I know for a fact that Bulloch County residents love their restaurants, so I today I am going to introduce you to the newest kid on the block, Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shop.
The Statesboro franchise of Jimmy John's opened last week and is located in the Market District retail shopping center that fronts Fair Road.
Franchise owner Jason Bordett said business has been very strong, and he and his two partners are really pleased that they chose Statesboro for their first franchise.
"The first Jimmy John's sandwich that I ever had was when I was a pilot living in Wisconsin," Bordett said. "I was hooked. After about a year of seeing the success of the restaurants everywhere that I would go, I decided that I wanted to open one in a college town, because it really has a cult-like following."
A native of Atlanta, Bordett said he and his partners looked around the southeast to see where there may be an opportunity, and Statesboro was one of the few college towns that did not have a Jimmy John's.
"My partner Randy Cushen is a Georgia Southern alumni and lives in Atlanta, so we debated between a location near Georgia Southern or Kennesaw State," he said. "Ultimately, we chose Statesboro."
The nature of Jimmy John's suits the energetic Bordett who serves as the operating partner for the Statesboro franchise. "We are open from 10:30 a.m. until 3:00 a.m. everyday," he said. "And, we deliver during those hours. We do a tremendous delivery business."
Bordett said there are 47 part-time employees that work for the restaurant including ten delivery drivers. "Jimmy John's is noted for its quick service," he said. "We will deliver your sandwich to you within 15 minutes of ordering. That is how our delivery is mapped. We have to be able to get to you in just a few minutes."
When I visited the restaurant this past weekend, I asked an enthusiastic patron what made Jimmy John's so special.   "Well, the bread is out of this world," she said. "I can't describe it, it is just that good. And, the service is exceptional."
Her sentiment isn't surprising since the company's slogan is "Subs so fast you'll freak!" I watched, and they really are fast even when it was very crowded.
Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shops was founded in 1983 by 19-year-old Jimmy John Liautaud in a converted garage in Charleston, Ill. Since its inception, the company has grown to over 1,000 corporate and franchised locations in 38 states throughout the U.S. For more information, visit

So, until next Tuesday, I bid you au revoir.
