Child killed in car accident

    A two-year-old child was killed Thursday when a car rear-ended the one in which she was riding.
    According to preliminary reports by Georgia State Patrol Trooper C. Palmer, Shamya Bacon of Claxton died from injuries sustained in the 6 p.m. crash on Ga. 169.
    Betty Jean Bacon, 55, Manasses, was driving north on Ga. 169, with Steven Ironmonger, 52, Savannah, driving behind her in the same direction, reports stated.
    Bacon stopped to make a left turn into a driveway when Ironmonger struck her vehicle in the rear.
    Seat belts were in use, according to reports.
    The accident occurred about a mile south of Bellville, Charges are pending, according to reports. The accident is still under investigation and reports were incomplete Friday.
    The fatality is the 11th this year within the three-county area covered by Georgia State Patrol Post 45, which covers Bulloch, Evans and Candler counties.
