A high speed chase ended in one man's arrest, but sheriff's investigators are seeking a second on traffic and drug charges, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.
Cpl. Travis Tuenge was on patrol around 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning on Williams Road near Pear Orchard Road when he clocked a truck traveling at a high rate of speed. A pursuit led to a chase, a crash, and both occupants fleeing on foot, he said. A passenger was apprehended but the driver is still at large.
Zacheriah Miller Jr., 27, Ogeechee Road, Sylvania, is charged with methamphetamine possession after deputies found "a quantity" of the drug on his person. Miller was captured after the chase, but Cecil Grant Brannen, 31, Old Dill Road, Portal, escaped, he said.
Tuenge followed Brannen's truck after a failed attempt to stop the men, who fled west on Williams Road, onto Nesmith Road, across Banks Dairy Road and then back onto the dirt portion of Nesmith Road, where the men crashed into a ditch, he said.
Both men stopped, but Tuenge captured Miller a short distance away. He found methamphetamine on Miller's person, and took him into custody. He was also charged with open container, seat belt violation and public intoxication.
Other responding deputies assisted Tuenge and found an undisclosed amount of marijuana in the truck, Anderson said.
Deputies did not find Brannen, but investigators hope citizens will help locate the suspect. Brannen is wanted on 14 counts of outstanding criminal and traffic charges including fleeing/attempt to elude police, obstruction and marijuana possession, he said.
Brannen stands 6'01" and weighs around 235 pounds. Anderson asked anyone with information about Brannen's whereabouts to call Tuenge or a warrants deputy at (912) 764-1771.
