Celebrating Recovery
Event marks National Recovery Month
092013 RECOVERY IN THE PARK
Heather Carr, 24, center, celebrates "Recovery in the Park" with bubbles Friday at Mill Creek Regional Park. The community was invited to help observe National Recovery Month, which helps raise awareness about addiction treatment and mental health services and issues. The day included open meetings for recovery patients and their families, food, music, and games. Carr, who has been sober for nine months, said she didn't volunteer for treatment initially but came to fully embrace the process and is grateful for the experience.
September is National Recovery Month, and on Friday, Statesboro celebrated. Together, Willingway Hospital and Pineland Mental Health Services hosted an event at Mill Creek Regional Park to commemorate local individuals who have worked to shed their addiction to drugs and alcohol. More than 100 men, women and children filled the park for a day that was both a festive celebration and an integral step toward healing.
