T uesday is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 6 Statesboro City Council election.

Statesboro city council candidates will gather this evening at the Nessmith-Lane Continuing Education building to discuss local issues at an event sponsored by the Georgia Southern University Student Government Association.

Starting at 5:30 p.m., there will be a "meet and greet" in the lobby, to give citizens a chance to talk with the candidate informally over light food and drink. The program starts at 6 p.m.

Each candidate will have five minutes to discuss their platforms and give their stances on the issues. Then, the moderator will ask selected questions from questions submitted by the audience on note cards left in their seats.

Brittany Hall, publicity director for SGA and one of the coordinators of the event, said their goal is to get more involved with the community.

"The whole background with this is that SGA wants to have a better relationship with the community," Hall said. "We feel if we bring the community to us and get the students more involved we cna build those relationships."

Today is also the last day for individuals who wish to vote in the Nov. 6th city election to register to vote. Registration forms can be obtained from the county registrar's office local at the Bulloch County Courthouse in downtown Statesboro.
