Ryan Burns joins First Southern

            Ryan Burns has joined First Southern National Bank as a  loan office.

            He is responsible for originating consumer and commercial loans.

            Ryan brings to First Southern five years of experience in the banking industry, most recently with the Statesboro branch of Valdosta’s Park Avenue Bank and Bank South in the Lake Oconee area.

            “I am excited to welcome Ryan and thrilled to have a Bulloch County native join our First Southern family.

            “His enthusiasm and knowledge of lending and our local community make him an excellent addition to our well qualified team. With employees like Ryan, we will continue to provide unsurpassed service to our customers,” said Tommy David, president of First Southern National Bank.

            A native of Statesboro, Ryan earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Georgia College and State University (GSCU) in Milledgeville, GA, where he also minored in finance.

            While attending GCSU, Burns was actively involved in the fraternity, Kappa Sigma.

            Ryan serves on the special events committee for the Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce and is on the fundraising committee for the Special Olympics of Georgia 2008 Fall Games.

            He also volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, United Way, American Red Cross and the Boys & Girls Club. Ryan is the son of Andy and Patty Burns, co-owner of Burns World Travel on Savannah Avenue, and has a younger brother, Brantley.

 

LaRita Hulsey elected VP of Ga. photo group

            LaRita Hulsey of LaRita and Company was elected vice president of the Georgia Professional Photographers Association at its recent convention held in Augusta Sept. 22-26. Hulsey has long been a leader in the 500-member state-wide organization, and will continue to serve on its board of directors in addition to her new duties as vice president.

            Hulsey is well-known in the Statesboro business community as the founder of LaRita and Company, a photography studio serving the area since 1993. She has received state and national awards for her photography and in 2000 earned the Certified Professional Photographer designation from the Professional Photographers of America — one of only 33 certified photographers in the Georgia Professional Photographers Association.

            Hulsey also owns and operates the Robin’s Nest event facility and Lullaby Baby, a new venture launching on November 1st to bring upscale children’s furniture and accessories to the Statesboro community.

Larry Hubbard attends dentistry program 

            Larry G. Hubbard, D.D.S., recently attended the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology program, “Managing Respiratory & Cardiovascular Complications” in Charleston, S.C.

            The seminar consisted of treating very sophisticated electronic mannequins that simulated a variety of clinical symptoms.

            The American Dental Society of Anesthesiology provides a high level of continuing education for dentists treating patients with various types of sedation anesthesia.

 

CORE Credit to hold investment seminars

            CORE Credit Union in Statesboro will sponsor two seminars titled “Investing 101.” Bill Smith, an investment advisor registered through CUSO Financial Services, L.P., will discuss how stock, bond and mutual fund investing works. Smith has been educating and assisting people with their investments for over 15 years.

            These seminars are designed for individuals who would like to learn more about investing, reevaluate their budget, purchase a home, take a more active role in their current investments or save for large future expenses, like college and retirement or whatever you may want.

            The seminars will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. Both will be held at the CORE Credit Union branch at 43 North Main Street in Statesboro.
