Saturday, horse lovers can have a great time as well as help a worthy cause by mounting up and participating in a Saddle Up for St. Jude trail ride.

The ride, hosted by Van and Tina Anderson, is to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which helps children with catastrophic disease and cancer regardless of their families' financial situation. Those with no insurance are never asked to pay.

The ride is Saturday, Sept. 29, and begins at 10 a.m. from Herman Butler's arena on Ga. 67 in Pembroke, the headquarters of the Georgia Wranglers Riding Club.

Trail boss is Bill Brown, and  the cost of the ride, which includes a meal, is $10 a rider.

But riders are encouraged to raise more money for St. Jude by securing pledges from sponsors. Riders raising $35 get a Saddle Up St. Jude tee shirt; those who raise $75 also get a backpack. Collect $125 or more and a rider will get a St. Jude sweatshirt as well. Riders raising $175 or more will also receive a St. Jude cap.

Local stores have donated prizes for riders raising the most money. Anderson General Store donated the first place prize - a tub of grooming supplies and a halter.

Tillman, Brannen and Minick donated the second place prize - a $25 gift certificate. The third place prize, a Fabtron halter, was donated by Agri-Supply. J.B. Anderson's Peanut and Grain in Nevils also donated a sponsor amount of $50 towards the fund raiser.
