A two-day shoplifting spree for beer and cigarettes landed a man in jail Thursday.
Statesboro police arrested Michael Robert Wilkerson, 45, of College Lane, on four counts of theft by shoplifting, as well as charges of criminal trespass and obstruction, according to police and jail reports.
Wilkerson allegedly stopped at Food World on Fair Road around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, leaving the store without paying for $191 worth (three cartons) of Newport cigarettes, according to Statesboro police incident reports.
Apparently Wilkerson was not immediately arrested, since he was seen at Bi-Lo around 3:37 p.m. Thursday, where he allegedly shoplifted two cases of beer valued at $34, reports stated.
Later Thursday night, Wilkerson was seen at Flash Foods on Fair Road, around 12:15, where he allegedly took cases of Busch Light beer valued at $68. A short time later, near 11 p.m., he was seen at Enmark on Northside Drive East, where he took two more cases of beer totaling around $32, reports said.
Clerks at Enmark called police and identified Wilkerson, as he was known to them, according to reports. Officers located him nearby and placed him under arrest, charging him with all four counts of shoplifting. He was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains without bond, according to jail records.
