A man suspected in a shooting Saturday at Park Place Apartments was arrested Sunday in Cobb County.
Ronnie Jones Jr., 22, Gentilly Drive, was arrested on an active warrant related to Saturday’s shooting, said Statesboro Police Maj. Rob Bryan, interim chief. After his arrest in Cobb County, he was transported to the Bulloch County Jail, where he was booked Wednesday on charges of aggravated assault with a gun, according to jail records.
Statesboro police responded to a report of a person being shot around 9:42 p.m. Saturday at Park Place Apartments on Lanier Drive, a complex that has been under recent scrutiny due to a high crime rate.
There, officers found Calvin Wilkerson suffering from two apparent gunshot wounds. Wilkerson was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for treatment. Family members said Tuesday he was stable and recovering from his wounds.
Wilkerson’s father, Eric Reese, was killed Aug. 15, 2014 when a teen fired into a crowd during a gang-related fight. Lester Parrish, now 19, pled guilty Tuesday to charges of murder regarding Reese’s death. Reese was reportedly at Park Place Apartments to take his daughter, who was said to have been watching the gang-related fight, home.
Bryan said the investigation into Saturday’s shooting is still under investigation, and further charges are pending. Det. Travis Kreun is leading the case.
Jones remains in the Bulloch County Jail on an investigative hold, according to jail records.
