American Legion honors shooting stars
The American Legion 34th Junior Air Rifle National Championship was held in Hillsdale, Michigan in July. Katlyn Sullivan, who graduated from Statesboro High in May, was the Precision Champion in the Three Position Air Rifle competition. Emma Allen, who attends Appling County High, finished third. Sullivan and Allen were honored by American Legion Post 90 with a cookout on Aug. 2 at the Post headquarters in Statesboro. Sullivan not only won back-to-back riflery individual state championships, she won gold medals in the Georgia State Junior Olympics in Smallbore and Air Rifle and has qualified for the National Junior Olympics for the past three years. She will attend the University of Nebraska on a riflery scholarship in the fall. Sullivan and Allen were honored by American Legion Post 90 with a cookout on Aug. 2 at the Post headquarters in Statesboro.
