Seven people — including a man who was shot during an attempted robbery Sunday evening — were arrested Thursday after officers responded to an apartment trying to find a man wanted for selling cocaine, according to the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators with the Statesboro-Bulloch Crime Suppression Team responded to the Lodge Apartments of Statesboro on Institute Street in an attempt to locate a man wanted for sale of cocaine, Sheriff Lynn Anderson said in a news release issued Friday.

The wanted suspect was believed to be in one of the apartments and, upon approaching the unit, investigators saw a man at the door matching the suspect's description, Anderson said.

The man, Rotema Watson, 43, of Georgia Highway 23 in Millen, attempted to throw away a bag of crack cocaine and was taken into custody, the sheriff said.

Six other individuals in the apartment were also taken into custody after investigators obtained a search warrant for the unit and discovered additional drugs, including marijuana and prescription pills, and a firearm, Anderson said.

The discovery of drugs and a firearm at the location is particularly significant, the sheriff said, because the area outside of this apartment was the scene of a shooting Sunday that is currently under investigation by detectives with the Statesboro Police Department. CST will assist in this investigation, the sheriff said.

According to Statesboro police reports, officers responded around 7:20 p.m. Sunday to the Institute Street apartment complex and found the victim, Nicky Latrell Young, 38, of Institute Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

No arrests have been made in that incident, but the shooting victim is one of the suspects arrested Thursday.

The following suspects were taken to the Bulloch County Jail on the listed charges:

— Watson, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, sale of cocaine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana (misdemeanor).

— Young, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

— Larry Jackson, 24, Holmes Drive, Millen; two counts of possession of a schedule II drug with intent to distribute and one count each of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of marijuana (misdemeanor).

— Michelle Parker, 48, Valley Road; possession of marijuana (misdemeanor), possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

— Brandon Mincey, 27, Institute Street; possession of marijuana (misdemeanor), possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The Crime Suppression Team is a partnership between the Statesboro Police Department and Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.
