Even though one man shouted a warning, it was too late to escape the law as drug agents and other officers on Mikell Street Thursday responded to a narcotics complaint, according to a Bulloch County Sheriff's Office report.

Three men - Derrick Nathanial Collie, 21, of Johnson Street; and Martavius Jamal Hobbs, 23, and Michael Demetrious Hobbs, 28, both of Sinkhole Road, were apprehended after a brief chase, according to a report by Deputy Mark Guarino.

Guarino and Sgt. Jason Kearney, both with the Sheriff's Targeted Enforcement Patrol, or STEP, unit, joined Bulloch County Drug Suppression Team Capt. Rick Rountree, Sgt. Kent Munsey and Deputy Kirk McGlamery with K-9 partner Max after receiving a narcotics complaint at a Mikell Street home.

As the group approached the location around 4:20 p.m., "several males were observed fleeing from a small shed in the rear of the property after another screamed ‘sheriff' in a loud voice," Guarino wrote in his report. "Pursuing deputies were able to run down and apprehend all of the suspects who fled to various parts of the neighborhood."

Two suspects were subdued by Taser after deputies saw them discarding suspected illegal narcotics and they refused verbal warnings to stop, Guarino said.

Deputies recovered "a significant amount of
suspected marijuana and a baggie of crack cocaine," Guarino reported. "During one foot chase, the pursuing deputy followed the suspect through an overgrown vacant lot ... and observed the suspect discard narcotics."

McGlamery went to the spot, deployed Max and found the discarded drugs, Guarino said.

Martavius Hobbs was charged with marijuana possession and obstruction.

Michael Hobbs was charged with cocaine possession, obstruction and an outstanding bench warrant. Collie was charged with obstruction.

All three were taken to the Bulloch County Jail to await bond and further court hearings.
