A man remains in critical condition after being attacked Sunday morning at a local bar.
The 19-year-old male victim, whom police did not identify, was injured during a fight "in the Rusty's Tavern area" at University Plaza, said Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner.
Statesboro police met with the victim around 2 a.m. Sunday at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center emergency room after his "roommates brought him to the hospital from his apartment, where they found him with a head injury and unresponsive," said Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner.
The victim was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for further treatment and remains in "critical, but stable condition," he said.
"This case is currently under investigation by the Statesboro Police Department Investigations Bureau," he said. "Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact Detective Tommy Brown at the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911."
Anonymous tips may be submitted online at www.tipsoft.com or by sending a text message beginning with "TIPSSPD" to 274637 (CRIMES). All information is strictly confidential, Turner said.
According to police incident reports, another altercation in the same location Saturday night also ended in injury.
Reports stated a man told Statesboro police officers a group of unknown men attacked him physically for no reason. A woman at the scene accused the complainant of having struck her in the face as she entered the business, but it was later determined he was not the one who struck her, reports said.
