A Millegdeville man was killed Sunday in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 16, caused by a tire blow out. Four others, including the driver of the vehicle, were seriously injured, according to Georgia State Patrol reports.
David J. Kitchens, 33, North Main Street, Milledgeville, was pronounced dead at the scene, reports said. He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Tiffany J. Moss-Hooper, 38, of Pine Valley Road, Milledgeville.
GSP reports state Moss-Hooper’s rear tire deflated as she traveled westbound near the 132 mile marker. The car traveled 146 feet in to the median before becoming airborne, where it flew some distance before impacting a culvert. After traveling 75 more feet, the car overturned several times, ejecting 10-year-old Michael Hooper.
Hooper suffered critical head injuries and was airlifted by Air Evac to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
The car continued traveling into the eastbound lane of the interstate, overturning several more times and ejecting Kitchens, who died at the scene.
George Zamora Jr., 37, Pine Valley Road, Milledgeville, and David Kitchens Jr., 10, were each transported by Bulloch County EMS to Memorial health University Medical Center, as was Moss-Hooper, who suffered facial injuries. Zamora suffered facial injuries as well, while Kitchens Jr., suffered upper extremity injuries, according to reports.
