James and Rebie Newsome of Statesboro, Ga., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 13, 2014, and enjoyed visiting with family and friends over the weekend. The couple met while attending college at Georgia Southern. Mr. and Mrs. Newsome were married on June 13, 1964, at Bull Street Baptist Church in Savannah, Ga. They lived a short time in Savannah before moving to Statesboro, where they have become lifelong residents. James and Rebie have three children: daughter Lynn N. Lanier and husband Dan, son Jay Newsome and wife Denise, and daughter Jana N. Gilbert. The couple has been blessed with three grandchildren, Whitney, Daniel and Peyton.
