Runners lined the streets for the annual Statesboro Turkey Trot 5K on Nov. 18. A major fundraising event for the Bulloch County Foundation for Public Education, the event is held each year in downtown Statesboro on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
The monies raised go to fund innovative grant projects for Bulloch County students and teachers. Projects funded last year included a wetland habitat for ducks, fish, turtles and frogs, video equipment, STEM activities, a mosaic mural, and teaching tools and materials for students with learning disabilities.
In addition, proceeds provide REACH Georgia scholarships to deserving youth, and provide an annual grant of $1,000 to the school system's Teacher of the Year.
The event includes, in addition to the 5K, a 1-mile fun run for kids and a mascot race.
