The Rev. and Mrs. James N. Barnes of Statesboro will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception on Saturday, October 14th, from 3 until 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church (Multipurpose Room), 108 North Main Street, in Statesboro. Mrs. Barnes is the former Hilda Raley of Mitchell, Ga., and they were married on October 14, 1956, at Long Creek Baptist Church in Warrenton, Ga., by the late Rev. J. D. Lever. Together the Barneses served the following churches: Liberty Baptist in Pansey, Ala., and in Georgia, Olive Branch Baptist in Ellabell, Bonnybridge Baptist in Port Wentworth, Smyrna Baptist in Vienna and Friendship Baptist in Statesboro, where the Rev. Barnes retired in 2002 after 16 years as pastor. Since then he has served as interim pastor at Oak Grove Baptist in Statesboro, Middle Ground Baptist and McDonald Baptist in Screven County, where they are currently serving.
