While it’s true that spring is the best time to watch the most colorful migratory birds in South Georgia backyards, the dead of winter can also bring some satisfying birding with inviting feeders and a little patience. Feeders placed near cover can attract many colorful species into view, such as cardinals, chickadees, titmice, warblers and sparrows. In January, in addition to the birds that remain here year-round, many migratory feathered creatures pass through the area on their way north to weather the heart of the coldest months.
