BRUNSWICK — Statesboro went down to Brunswick and were swept in a Region 3-AAAA doubleheader in the first round of the region playoffs Friday.
The Blue Devils fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of Game Two and never could fully recover, eventually losing 8-2.
Luke Connell singled in Tony Hill in the fourth to close the gap to 4-2, but then SHS had a runner thrown out at the plate to end the threat. Brunswick then plated four in the top of the fifth.
Grayson Wiggins had an RBI single for SHS in the defeat and sophomore Crawford Simmons took the loss on the mound.
In Game One, Forrest Robertson took the loss, giving up four runs over four innings as Statesboro fell 4-2.
The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Jake Ware sac fly that scored Trent Lewis. The Pirates countered with two in the second and single runs in the third and fourth.
Wiggins added a sole home run in the sixth to provide the final margin.
Statesboro ends its season at 12-10.
