Reclassification puts Metter back in Class A

The Georgia High School Association released its reclassification numbers for athletic competition starting in the fall of 2008.
No major changes were listed for area schools, except for Metter, who will be moved from Class AA to Class A.
The Tigers’ football team, who lost their 23rd game in a row on Friday, will return to the smaller A classification starting next year.
Metter’s other sports have been competitive in AA, but the football team hasn’t won a game since October of 2005. Metter moved to Class AA in 2004.
MHS Athletic Director Clay Hill could not be reached for comment.
While no other local team moved in classifications, some of their nearby neighbors did. Statesboro foe Greenbrier, out of Augusta, is listed as AAAAA. Savannah city schools Johnson and Jenkins are listed as AAAA while Beach fell to AAA. Windsor Forest and Savannah High are listed as AAA school s as well. Those changes could equal vastly different regions when the GHSA announces   its new leagues on Nov. 29.
South Effingham’s numbers place them a step up in AAAA while Savannah Christian is listed at A.
Schools have until Monday, Nov. 26 to challenge their classifications — whether they wish to move up or move down.
