Prep roundup: Statesboro boys, girls beat Savannah Christian at golf

    Statesboro High School's boys and girls golf teams defeated Savannah Christian on Wednesday at Forest Heights Country Club.
    Statesboro's boys shot 151 and Savannah Christian shot 160 in the nine-hole match. The Blue Devils' Jonathan Bachant shot 1-under-par 35 to win the event.
    The Blue Devils' Trevor Daily shot 38 to finish second, and Clay Cribbs and Cameron Shiels shot 39 to tie for third.
    Statesboro's girls shot 84 and Savannah Christian shot 114. The Lady Blue Devils' Sara Jane Bowers shot 41 to win the event. Taylor Sarratt shot 43 to finish second.

Screven Co. hammers Laney at baseball
    AUGUSTA — Screven County High School crushed Laney, 21-0, in a three-inning baseball game Tuesday.
    The Gamecocks (2-8 overall, 1-0 in Region 3AA-A) produced 14 hits, including two apiece by Patrick Scarboro, Hobby Mills, Blake Evans and Dawson Oglesby.
    Screven County's Dylan Koch pitched a two-hitter, striking out six, to earn the win.

Burke beats Screven
    SYLVANIA — Screven County's Alan Tapley and Aaron Brower combined for a three-hitter but the Gamecocks lost, 2-1, to Burke County in a baseball game Wednesday night.
    Screven got a seventh-inning run on Cameron Martin's home run. Kameron Oliver had two hits.

Screven Co. beats SEB at tennis
    SYLVANIA — Screven County High School's girls and boys tennis teams defeated Southeast Bulloch on Tuesday.
    Screven's girls (10-1 overall, 3-0 in Region 3AA-A) beat SEB, 5-0. The Lady Gamecocks got wins from Sophia Evans, 6-4, 6-1; Lovey Sheppard, 6-0, 6-1; Mallorie Boswell, 6-0, 6-0; Haley Mock and Jany Durrence, 6-1, 6-1; and Pam Wooten and Kari Lane, 6-0, 6-0.
    Screven's boys (5-6 overall, 3-0 in Region 3AA-A) beat SEB, 3-2. The Gamecocks got win from Daniel Weaver, 6-0, 6-1; Sawyer Newton and Ryan Bazemore, 6-0, 6-1; and Cody Norton and Zachary Weaver, 6-3, 7-5.
    Both Screven teams will play Friday in the Coastal Empire Tennis Classic at Bacon Park in Savannah.

BA sweeps Trinity Christian at tennis
    DUBLIN — Bulloch Academy's girls and boys tennis teams garnered Region 4-AAA victories against Trinity Christian School on Tuesday.
     BA's girls won all five matches, while the Gator boys took a 3-1 victory.
    In girls singles, Ally Cheshire defeated Lauren Rawlins, 8-1; Meghan Barber blanked Brittany Soles, 8-0; and Anna Mallard downed Elizabeth Brack, 8-1.
    In girls doubles, McKenzie Webb and Caitlin Barber whipped Emma Boles and Amelia Gay, 8-0, while Claire Hiller and Lyndsey Wasdin took an 8-2 victory over Taylor Shriver and Madison Tanner.
    In boys singles action, Cody Lanier beat Daniel Alligood, 8-3; John Ellis Howell beat Elijah Baggett, 8-4; and Robbie O’Sullivan edged Josh Fennell, 8-6.
    In boys doubles action, Griffin Walker and Elliott Propes lost to Ryan Maas and Cuyler Warnock, 8-6.
