On Friday, Portal High School's Nikki Sims and Megan Moore signed letters of intent to play for the Lady Bobcats next season.
“This is a really exciting day for me,” said Moore. “I’ve been playing softball since I was a little girl. I’m thankful to my coaches and parents who helped me work hard to get here and I’m excited to be able to keep playing with Nikki next year.”
In their final season with Portal, both were instrumental in the success of the Lady Panthers. Moore completed her third year as the ace of the pitching staff, Sims gave an All-Region effort from her position at shortstop, and both were counted on heavily in the Portal offense.
"I’m grateful for the opportunity that I had to play for Portal,” said Sims. “That’s also why I’m excited to continue my career at East Georgia. It means a lot for me to play in front of my family and friends, so staying close to home will allow me to keep doing that.”
East Georgia is about to begin its inaugural season, with Sims and Moore waiting in the wings for the 2012 campaign.
“We’re very excited to be bringing in Nikki and Megan,” said Nail. “They have been great contributors to Portal’s program, and we’ll be counting on them to be the same type of competitors for East Georgia.”
