Local Roundup: SEB's Harlow gets win in first start

    SAVANNAH — Freshman Tiffany Harlow got her first start as a pitcher for the Southeast Bulloch Lady Yellow Jackets and got the win as SEB defeated Calvary Day, 4-2, Thursday on the road.
    The win closes out the regular season for SEB (19-4, 8-0 Region 1-AAA).
    The region tournament begins Tuesday at 4 p.m., when the No. 1 seed Yellow Jackets face either Pierce County or Islands in a doubleheader.
    Cierra Clark went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs against Calvary (13-8), and Effie Manahan tripled, drove in a run and scored.
    Storm Williams added a run on a 1-for-2 evening, and Mary Grace Manahan went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

GSU has pair of SoCon road games
    Georgia Southern women’s soccer travels this weekend for a pair of games at Appalachian State and Western Carolina. Friday’s game against the Mountaineers starts at 7 p.m. while Sunday’s matinee starts at 2 p.m.
    The Eagles enter the weekend as the SoCon’s top-scoring squad in league games. GSU pushed five past Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon to improve to 5-2-3 overall and 1-1 in SoCon play.
    The GSU offense is led by Sydnie Van Curen on four goals while Nora El-Shami, Courtney Collins and Stephanie Gratto have three goals each. The Eagle attack has scored 17 times this year while the defense has held opponents to seven total goals and pitched six shutouts.
    Goalkeeper Katie Merson has played all 960 minutes of the season between the pipes, making 47 saves with a 0.66 goals against average.
After this weekend’s slate of games the Eagles close their three-game road swing against College of Charleston on October 4th before hosting The Citadel on Sunday, October 7th, at 2 p.m.
