Local Roundup: Jackets win region opener

    BROOKLET — The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets won their Region 1-AAA baseball opener, knocking off Brantley County 7-4 at home on Tuesday.
    Ryan Adams took the win, combining with Bryce Harnage and Keagan Carter on the mound in the voctory.
    Southeast Bulloch is back in action on Friday at Tattnall County.

Gamecocks suffer first region loss
    SYLVANIA — The Screven County lADY Gamecocks (2-1) fell to East Laurens 2-1 in the Region 3-AA     soccer opener.
    Tara Thompson scored the SCHS goal off an assist from Haleigh Thompson to give the Gamecocks a 1-0 lead. East Laurens netted a pair of goals in the final 8 minutes for the win.
    Keeper Whitney Gay had 12 saves for Screven County.
    Screven returns to action on March 4, against Westside in Augusta.

SCHS drops offensive battle
    SYLVANIA — The Screven County baseball season opened with a lot of offense as South Effingham beat the Gamecocks 18-13 in the opener.
    SEHS opened with a 10-0 lead, and the Gamecocks cut it to 10-6 in the fifth.
    Screven tallied 11 hits in the game from eight different players. Jason Hodges had three hits and drove in a run, Shadon Kenp drove in a run on two hits and Aaron Bower and Seth Warren each drove in a pair of runs.
    Screven returns to action on the road against Jenkins County on Friday.

Screven tennis splits with SEHS
    SYLVANIA — The South Effingham boys dfeated Screven County 5-0 and the Lady Gamecocks beat SEHS 3-2 on Tuesday in tennis action.
    The girls (2-0) got singles wins from Mallorie Boswell (6-2, 6-2) and Jancy Durrence (6-7 [7-9], 6-4, 6-0), and doubles pair Pamela Wooten and Haley Jackson won 7-6 (6-4), 6-2, to seal the win.
    Screven County hosts Effingham County on Thursday.

AAU Heat holding hoops tryouts
    The Statesboro Heat youth AAU basketball team is holding tryouts today at 7 p.m., in the Boys & Girls Club gym.
    Players ages 9-11 from Bulloch County and surrounding areas are encouraged to try out.

GSU hoops show canceled
    This week’s edition of Inside Georgia Southern Basketball Radio Show will not air due to a scheduling conflict. The show will return next week from Big Show’s Bar and Grill on Lanier Dr. for the final episode of the regular season which will include a preview of the upcoming SoCon Tournament.
    Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball travels to Furman on Thursday night for the second to last SoCon Regular Season game.

SEBMS tops Knights
    The Southeast Bulloch Middle School girls soccer team defeated William James Middle School 3-2 on Tuesday.
    The Yellow Jackets (1-2) got goals from Emily Barnard, Emma Cardenas and Autumn Bachelor, and Layni Miller, Meghan Canicatti, Jade Larrow, Kylea Carroll and Mia Olson led the way on defense. Meredith Greene and Makayla James combined for the win in goal.
