SAVANNAH — Drew Rushing mowed down 10 Islands batters and allowed only two hits as the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets earned a 5-0 shutout on the road Friday.
After falling on the road to Appling on Wednesday, the Jackets(11-3 Region 1-AAA) bounced back and will face a region doubleheader on Tuesday against Beach.
Wednesday was a busy day for the Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department's diamonds.
In the Midget Softball league the Wildcats beat the
Cowboys 5-3, the Bulldogs beat the Seminoles 6-0, the Hurricanes beat the Tigers 10-9, the Mets beat the A's 11-10 and the Nationals beat the Braves 10-8.
In the Minor Baseball league the Orioles beat the Giants 11-7, the Yankees beat the Mariners 5-2, the Cardinals beat the Phillies 6-4and the Cubs beat the Angels 6-4.
Gamecocks get past JCHS
SYLVANIA — Brandon Whatley hit a two-run home run and drove in four on the day as the Screven County Gamecocks won a 13-8 shootout at home on Friday against Jenkins County.
Relief pitcher Bobby Hodges went 3.1 innings and got the win for Screven County.
Bailey Pollock (2-for-3) swiped a pair of bases and scored three times, Caleb Krulic (2-for-3) belted a double and drove in a pair of runs and nine SCHS batters hit safely in the win.
Screven County (13-5) is back in action on TUesday against South Effingham.
