Gamecocks enter playoffs as No. 2 seed with win over Metter
Screven

Screven County assured itself of at least one home game in the Class AA state playoffs as the Gamecocks earned a 29-16 win at Metter Friday night.

The Tigers (6-4, 3-3 Region 3-AA) struck first on a fumble return for a touchdown before the Gamecocks (9-1, 5-1) tied it up on a 3-yard touchdown run by Malik Prescott and a Tyler Owens kick.

Making things tough, Metter took the lead into halftime, kicking a field goal just before the gun.

Screven County gained its first lead on an 8-yard run by Armani Bunbury in the third quarter and stretched it out on a 35-yard interception return by Jermany Hawkins. Metter found the end zone once more, but the Gamecocks sealed the win on another Prescott scoring run with just over a minute to go.

Prescott ran 15 times for 108 yards and broke the 1,000-yard mark for the season. C.J. Wright ran for 71 yards and Bunbury added 48 more.

The victory clinched the region's No. 2 seed for the Gamecocks. It will be a local affair next week as Screven County hosts Bryan County (5-5, No. 3 seed out of Region 2-AA) next Friday.
