Southeast Bulloch High School's girls track and field team produced a total team effort en route to winning its second consecutive Region 3-AA track and field championship in Dublin on Tuesday.
But one Lady Yellow Jacket stood out above the rest.
Junior Breanna Gates demolished the competition, taking first place in four of the five events in which she competed, and earning more points for her school (34.5) than any other individual.
Gates was a member of SEB’s first-place 4x100-meter relay team and she also took the top spot in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints. Not finished with just her work on the track, Gates ventured into the field events, where her long jump of 18 feet also was good for first place.
“I was really excited going in,” Gates said. “I thought that (getting the high-point total) was something that I could do. It’s great to get that, but it’s even better that the team won the region.”
With the region meet behind them, Gates and her fellow Yellow Jackets now move on to sectionals.
Southeast Bulloch will compete at Lamar County on April 28, with the top performers advancing to the state meet in May.
