With just over a week remaining in the regular season, Screven County is rolling towards one of its best showings ever.
The Lady Gamecocks are sitting at No. 7 in the state polls with an 18-2 record and senior guard Casmeyona Austin has been a huge part of the success.
Austin is part of a large core of upperclassmen that have paid their dues throughout the past few seasons and are now making the best of their final run.
“It’s been great playing with mostly the same girls,” said Austin. “Everyone trusts everyone else on the court, and we’re really comfortable out there.”
Much of the press has gone to forward Bria Lonon who can dominate entire teams with her post game, but Austin’s defense and outside shooting provide the Gamecocks with a more balanced attack that has been nearly impossible for opponents to stop.
Austin is second on the team with 14 3-pointers and leads all Screven regulars with a 44.4 field goal percentage.
“I just try to do whatever I can to help the team,” said Austin. “I think that we’ve got a great chance to go pretty far if we just keep playing well together.”
