Local fishing team wins points Championship

Barry Durden (left) from Rocky Ford, Ga., and Sterling Starling (right) from Statesboro became the Point Champs for the 2007 season for Southern Anglers Challenge bass team fishing trail on the Savannah River. The team caught five bass that weighed 19.12 pounds in the last tournament held out of Stokes Bluff on May 19. They placed second in this final tournament which was a double-point tournament and raised them from fifth into first place. By placing first they have won plaques plus six free entry fees for the 2008 season which begins in November on the Savannah River. Durden and Starling caught most of their bass, including a lunker, at 7.52 on buzz bait. All their fish came out of the lakes and cuts on the river.
