A source close to the Georgia Southern football program has indicated that the university has interviewed two potential candidates to replace Jeff Monken as the head football coach — Vanderbilt's Brent Pry and Navy's Ivin Jasper
The source reported that both interviews took place after Christmas.
The source also indicated that GSU had interviewed Zach Azzanni and Rhett Lashlee.
Pete Roussell from coachingsearch.com said on the phone Saturday night that he confirmed Azzanni and Lashlee did not interview for the position, contrary to reports.
Pry is considered the leading candidate for the job according to the source. Pry has been a defensive assistant at Vanderbilt since 2011.
Pry has been the linebackers coach for the Commodores since he was brought onto the staff by head coach James Franklin. He also holds the titles of assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator for the Commodores.
Pry was the defensive coordinator at Georgia Southern under Monken in 2010.
Jasper is in his 14th season at the Naval Academy. He has been the quarterbacks coach at Navy for 12 years and the offensive coordinator for the past six seasons.
Jasper was the quarterbacks coach and fullbacks coach at Georgia Southern under Paul Johnson from 1999-2001.
Lashlee is the offensive coordinator at Auburn. This season, Auburn led the nation in rushing with 335.7 yards per game and is ranked 11th with 505.3 total yards.
Auburn will face Florida State in the BCS National Championship on Monday, Jan. 6.
Azzanni is in his second season as the recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach at Tennessee. Azzanni also has assistant coaching experience at Wisconsin, Western Kentucky, Florida, Central Michigan, Bowling Green and Valparaiso.
There have been no further reports of other candidates being involved in the interview process.
Georgia Southern athletics director Tom Kleinlein could not be reached by phone for comment as of Saturday evening.
