Local Roundup - Roache selected for All-Star game

    Georgia Southern's Victor Roache was selected to the Cape Cod League All-Star game and will serve as the West Division's designated hitter.
    The Ypsilanti, Mich., native, who led the NCAA with 30 home runs during the 2011  season and was the runner up in the 2011 NCAA Home Run Derby, will serve as one of three representatives from the Cotuit Kettleers in the All-Star game.
    The sophomore is in the hunt for the triple crown, leading the Cape Cod in batting average, home runs and RBI. Roache currently sits at .361 with six home runs and 28 RBIs after 33 games with the Cotuit Kettleers.
    The 2011 Cape Cod League All-Star Game will be played at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. on Friday.
 Comcast SportsNet New England will televise the contest which is set for 7 p.m.

SEBMS softball tryouts
    BROOKLET — Tryouts for Southeast Bulloch Middle School softball begin on Monday, Aug. 1,  the first day of school, and will continue through Thursday, Aug. 4.
  Girls who are trying out must have a current physical and a parent permission form on file or in hand on the first day of tryouts.
    Physical forms and parent permission forms may be printed off of the SEBMS website on the home page.
    Students are asked to bring their equipment to school  Monday and take it to the gym as soon as they report to school.
    Students are instructed to  meet coach Jennifer Walker in the commons area of the school as soon as they are released from class.
