Local Roundup: McKinnon, Westbrooks invited to NFL combine

    Former Georgia Southern Eagles Jerick McKinnon and Lavelle Westbrooks have invitations to the NFL Scouting Combine and will travel to Indianapolis for the annual prospect evaluation at Lucas Oil Stadium on February 22-25.
    During what is described as the “intense, four-day job interview” in advance of the NFL Draft in May, the itinerary for the annual event includes six physical tests.

Buzzer beater lifts Claxton over CDS
    CLAXTON — Taylor Fiveash got an offensive rebounds and put it in during the final seconds as the Claxton Lady Tigers escaped with a 52-51 win over Calvary Day on Monday.
    The Tigers (20-3, 8-1 Region 3A-A) were led by Devonna Brewton (17 points), Keri Brown (12) and Jazmine Price (11).

    CLAXTON — Calvary Day got 16 points from A.J. Keene and narrowly escaped Claxton with a 57-54 win on Monday in a makeup region game.
    Claxton (10-11, 4-5) was led in scoring by Cornelious Roberts, who scored 22 points.

GSU swept in Florida
    ORLANDO, Fla. — Georgia Southern men's tennis suffered  losses over the weekend to Central Florida and Stetson, both by final scores 7-0.
    The Eagles are now 0-4 overall. They return to action on Friday at against East Carolina.

    The Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and recreation Department's basketball season continued last week.
    In the Minor Boys league on Thursday, the Trailblazers beat the Warriors 42-27, the Thunder beat the Pacers 33-27, the 76ers outlasted the Clippers 28-20 and the Celtics beat the Rockets with a score of 28-2. The Spurs beat the Timberwolves with a score of 44-30, the Nets beat the Knicks 30-18 and the Lakers beat the Mavericks 30-17.
    In the Midget Girls game the 76ers beat the Pacers 22-9.
    On Saturday in the Midget Boys League, the Rockets beat the Thunder 33-13, the Warriors beat the Bulls 31-23 and the Heat beat the Celtics 33-4.
    In the Midget Girls game the Spurs beat the Pacers 20-2.
    In the Tiny Minor games the Lakers edged the Knicks
with 18-15 and the Thunder beat the Clippers 24-4.
    In the Minor Boys league, the 76ers beat the Rockets 43-20 and the Nets barely escaped from the Timberwolves 35-33. The Blazers beat the Spurs 57-42, the Pacers beat the Clippers 40-29, the Lakers beat the Knicks 48-20, the Celtics beat the Mavericks 39-24 and Warriors beat the Magic 36-26.
