Local Roundup: GSU women win home opener

    Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer earned the breakthrough win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Stetson at home ground. The Eagles improve to 1-3-0 on the season as freshman Jennifer Wittick scored twice to open her collegiate scoring.
    The victory was not only Georgia Southern’s first win of the season, but it was the first Division I victory for head coach Brian Dunleavy.

Bulloch JV blanks EBA
    WAYNESBORO — Bulloch Academy’s defense scored two touchdowns as the Gators blanked Edmund Burke 20-0
in middle-school football action Wednesday.
    Defensive tackle Trevor Mason caused a fumble with a big hit, recovered the bouncing ball and raced 40 yards. Defensive back Lawson Anderson returned an interception for a TD. Anderson also converted on a two-point conversion. Quarterback Don Aaron hooked up with wide receiver Wright Rockett. Fifth-quarter action yielded one big play, a 60-yard touchdown jaunt by slotback Justin Kane on an option pitch.
    Bulloch (1-0) travels to Dublin next Thursday to take on the Trinity Christian Crusaders.

GSU/Furman game time change
    Georgia Southern Athletics today announced that the kickoff time for the Saturday, Nov. 2, game against Furman will be moved to a 1 p.m. start.
    This will be the final Southern Conference meeting between these two rivals. Eagle fans are encouraged to wear and display as much True Blue spirit as possible.
    Tickets for the Furman game, this weekend’s game vs. St. Francis (Pa.) and all remaining Georgia Southern Football games are available for advance purchase at, by calling 1-800-GSU-WINS or by visiting the Athletics Ticket Office at 203 Lanier Drive between the hours of 8:30-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
