Georgia Southern's women's basketball team added four players for the 2012-13 season, the school announced Wednesday. The Eagles' signing class should help bolster new head coach Chris Vozab's first squad.
GSU signed two point guards and two forwards, including Maggie Davis, Sierra Kirkland, Kiki Rawls and Alexis Sams, to national letters of intent for the upcoming season.
Davis, the 2011-12 All-Space Coast Player of the Year, joins the Eagles after helping Viera (Fla.) High School to a program-best 23 wins and a Class 7A regional final appearance. The Idialantic, Fla., native averaged 14.6 points, 10 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 3.3 steals per game last season. Davis was named to the Cape Coast Conference First Team all four years and led Brevard County in scoring in the same period. She finished with 1,392 career points.
Kirkland, a forward from Statesboro High School, is ranked as a two-star recruit by ESPN. She helped SHS to a 26-4 record as a junior. She helped lead the Blue Devils to two region championships, three sweet 16 appearances and two elite eights. Kirkland was All-Region 2-AAAA all four years and was selected to the GSWA All-State AAAA team in 2012.
Rawls, a point guard from Shoemaker High School in Killeen, Texas, was a District 12-5A First-Team selection after averaging 17.9 points per game. She was selected three times to the all-area team and was an all-district selection all four years.
Sams, a point guard, finished her career at Brantley High School with 1,240 points. She missed her senior year with an injury but averaged 19 points, five assists and four steals in her junior season. She was also named First Team All-Seminole County and Second Team All-Central Florida in 2011.
