Eagles top Charleston to take season series
GSU New

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — Georgia Southern Baseball got three hits from Mason McWhorter including a pair of doubles en route to a 5-4 win over the College of Charleston. The win sealed a season series win over the Cougars as the Eagles avenged a February loss to Charleston with a pair of wins in April.

SCORING PLAYS
Top 3rd — The Eagles got the offense going in the third inning, taking advantage of a one out walk to Nolan Tressler, plating him when leadoff hitter Jason Swan stroked a triple off the wall in left. Swan scored soon after when Steven Curry dumped a single to right, making it a 2-0 lead.
Bottom 3rd — A two run triple in the third got the Cougars back on level terms at 2-2.
Top 4th — Mason McWhorter hit his first double of the day in the fourth inning, powering a one out gap shot to left. Later in the inning, Matt Anderson traded places with McWhorter, doubling down the left field line to score McWhorter and give the Eagles a lead that would not be relinquished.
Top 6th — McWhorter sparked the Eagles in the sixth inning, lacing a two out double and scoring when Chandler Corley bashed a single to the gap in left.
Top 7th — Jeddediah Fagg opened the seventh inning with a single to left, scoring with two outs on Austin Thompson's RBI single up the middle.
Bottom 7th — A throwing error opened the door for Charleston to get a run back in the seventh inning, reducing the lead to two runs at 5-3.
Bottom 9th — A leadoff double came around to score for the Cougars as the home side cut the lead to 5-4 with two outs in the inning.

NOTES
— McWhorter's three hit game marked the 10th multi-hit game for the sophomore this season and his first three hit game of the season. He joins Jason Swan as the only Eagles to hit multiple doubles in the same game this year. Swan's double-double game came on March 17th against Louisiana.
— Starting pitcher Braxton Johns continued to deal as a starting pitcher, allowing two runs and five hits in five and a third innings. He threw six shutout innings against the Cougars last week in the 6-4 Eagle win. This week, his effort was good enough to notch his fourth win of the season.
— Cole Whitney threw three and a third innings out of the bullpen, allowing two runs, one earned off three hits to nail down his second save of the season.
— Chandler Corley went 2-for-4 on Tuesday with an RBI.
— The top two hitters in the Eagle lineup, Jason Swan and Steven Curry had similar lines, each going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Swan added a run scored while hitting his first collegiate triple in the contest.
