BA travels to Piedmont

Bulloch Academy has already faced elimination long before its first-round opponent ever considered it.
The Gators beat Memorial Day at the start of the week to slip into the Class AA field. Their gift? A trip to No. 1 Piedmont Academy.
“They got guys that can hit, they got guys that can run, bunt, field, throw — they do it all,” said BA coach Daryl Evans. “They’re a very good team. As long as we keep doing the things that we’ve done all year, it’ll give us a chance to be there in the end.”
Piedmont (16-3) won the 1-AA title and will be heavy favorites when BA (10-9) rolls into Monticello.
“We messed around and got a four seed coming out,” said senior outfielder Jordan Walker. “I feel like we’re a good team and we can play with anybody in the state, we just gotta bring the ‘A’ game.”
Walker is one will be looking to end his athletic career on a positive. He and teammate Ethan Lovett, among others, helped the Gators to big seasons in football, basketball and a state track and field championship. An upset over the Cougars starting today at 4 p.m. would be icing on the cake.
As for the rest of the Bulloch program, Evans said the 2008 campaign — no matter how it ends — has been a success.
“I think we’ve made a major step in the right direction,” he said. “With our young boys coming up. The future should be looking pretty good for BA.”
