A woman Statesboro Police say was shot by her boyfriend in a murder-suicide attempt last month was released Wednesday from the hospital.

Allison Fleet of Aspen Heights Apartments, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah after Statesboro police found her in her residence Feb. 21, said Statesboro Police Maj. Rob Bryan, interim chief.

Her boyfriend, Antonio Sanchez, 23, of the same address, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Bryan said.

“Sanchez and Fleet were living together and were in a relationship for several years,” Bryan said.

Police responded to the apartment around 9:12 p.m. on Feb. 21 to conduct a welfare check requested by one of the victims’ parents. After finding the doors of the residence locked, “officers made forced entry … and located two subjects inside the apartment.  Both had sustained gunshot wounds,” he said.

Detectives handling the case determined the incident was an attempted murder-suicide, Bryan said, with Sanchez first shooting Fleet and then turning the gun on himself.

According to Georgia Southern University spokesperson Jennifer Wise, Sanchez was not a GSU student, but Fleet, 23, is a Georgia Southern graduate and is taking post-baccalaureate classes. She is also a university employee.
