Sheriff’s investigators arrested a man on rape charges Friday after meeting with an alleged victim in the hospital earlier last week.

Robert “Robbie” Spencer Baird of North Leah Road in Statesboro, is charged with rape and interference with a 911 call, said Bulloch County Sheriff Noel Brown.

Bulloch County Sheriff’s deputies responded Nov. 27 to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, where a 33-year-old female victim reported the sexual assault took place on Aycock Road in Brooklet, he said.

Sheriff’s investigators began processing information from the victim about the incident and “identified …Baird as the offender in the case,” he said. “As a result of the interviews conducted, the processing of evidence collected, and the facts of the case, warrants were issued.”

Baird, 44, was arrested late Friday, according to Bulloch County Sheriff’s Capt. Todd Hutchens.

Baird is being held at the Bulloch County Jail without bond, Brown said.

“The investigation is ongoing,” he said.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call Investigator William Sims at (912)678-0021.
