While some dirt roads in Bulloch County will reopen to bus travel Wednesday, Nov. 13, the alternate bus transportation plan will remain in effect for certain roads, according to a Tuesday afternoon release from the school district.
Parents and guardians are requested to monitor either the Bulloch County Schools Website for a list and regular updates at bullochschools.org.
Families are asked to remember the bus transportation tips listed on the website as well. The school district will continue to collaborate with the Bulloch County Emergency Management Agency and Bulloch County Public Works to update the road list as roads are cleared for bus travel.
"Bulloch County has experienced multiple tropical storms, hurricanes, and flash floods this fall season," the release stated. "They have seriously impacted roads, especially for large, heavy vehicles like school buses. While families, nor the school district, are able to control these conditions, we can be resilient and continue to be patient and flexible with the alternate bus routes, absences and tardies."
After six to 10 inches of rain fell overnight Nov. 6 into Nov. 7, the Bulloch County Schools district announced Thursday afternoon that all of the county's dirt roads were closed to school buses.
That plan was activated by the school district "in ongoing collaboration with Bulloch County Emergency Management and Public Safety, as Hayley Greene, Bulloch County Schools public relations director, announced in a media release.
Under the alternate transportation plan, school buses still travel, but the bus stops for dirt road-resident families still on the no-drive list are those designated on the nearest paved roads.
The Tuesday afternoon version of the list appears at the bottom of this story. For the updated list and other information on the BCS alternate transportation plan, see www.bulloch.k12.ga.us/news-feed-data/rain-prevents-bus-travel-on-certain-roads

Bulloch County Schools will be open Friday and the district will update parents by Sunday on the status of schools and bus transportation, Greene emphasized.
This school year has given families practice with the alternate bus transportation plan because of the previous torrential rains from Tropical Storm Debby in early August and the road closures, mostly from fallen trees, caused by Hurricane Helene in late September.
