The Statesboro Police Department has seen an increase in metal thefts this month.
Patrol and investigation units have been deployed in an effort to reduce these incidents and apprehend the offenders, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Thursday.
Any businesses that may have items that could be sold as scrap metal are encouraged to take extra precautions in securing those items and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
Businesses that are commonly affected by metal thefts are repair shops, vehicle dealerships, construction suppliers and construction sites. Anyone observing suspicious activity around any business or home should also contact the police and are free to remain anonymous.
Anyone with information concerning these incidents is asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911. Anonymous tips may be submitted online at www.tipsoft.com or by sending a text message beginning with "TIPSSPD" to 274637 (CRIMES). All information is strictly confidential.
